Hanam Tree Orphanage

경기도 하남시 미사동 608

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Tree Orphanage is a site created on approximately 89,000㎡ with the purpose of relocating and nurturing trees that would otherwise be abandoned due to urban development projects, giving them new life as street trees, park trees, or landscape trees for green areas. Currently, it no longer accepts tree donations or transplants trees to parks, but is being cultivated as an urban forest (park). It is planted with 46 species of various trees, including pine, plane tree, ginkgo, and zelkova. It was established by relocating trees donated from the Seoul metropolitan area and Gyeonggi region, including 159 pine trees, about 300 ginkgo trees injured by road expansion work, about 1,000 zelkova trees, 1,700 metasequoia trees, and 450 red maple trees. Hanam City utilizes this Tree Orphanage as a venue for environmental education to raise awareness of the importance of nature conservation, and it is gaining attention as a new attraction in the metropolitan area harmonizing with the nearby Han River.
