Tomb of Yi Hang-bok

Yi Hang-bok was a civil official of the mid-Joseon period, with the posthumous title of Munchung, the pen name Baek-sa, and his clan origin was Gyeongju. Yi Hang-bok served as Vice Minister of Personnel, Minister of War, Second State Councilor, and Chief State Councilor, and is well-known as 'Oseong' from 'Oseong and Haneum'. In the 13th year of King Seonjo's reign (1580), he passed the special civil service examination, and in the 22nd year (1589), as a senior official of the Ministry of Rites, he handled the rebellion case of Jeong Yeo-rip. Afterwards, he was enfeoffed as Oseong-gun and, after serving as Minister of Punishments, Minister of War, and Left and Right State Councilors, he became Chief State Councilor and was enfeoffed as Oseong Buwongun. The tomb forms a double burial mound with his wife, Lady Andong Kwon, who was the daughter of General Gwon Yul. Below the slope in front of the tomb area, there is a shrine enshrining Yi Hang-bok, and to the right of the shrine stands a stele erected in the 3rd year of King Hyojong's reign (1652). The stele is in the form of a roof-shaped capstone and square base, with a grand and imposing size, and the neat eaves and ornate base harmonize well. This tomb area preserves the artistry of 17th-century tomb stonework, making it a cultural heritage of high academic value.
