Seongnamsa Temple (Anseong)

Seongnamsa Temple is a small temple located at the foot of Seoun Mountain, founded by the monk Seokseon during the Unified Silla period. It was rebuilt by National Preceptor Hyeggeo in the early Goryeo period but was completely destroyed during the Japanese invasions of Korea (Imjin War). Later, it was reconstructed by Hwadeok, leading to its present state. The temple grounds currently include Yeongsanjeon Hall, Sansingak Shrine, and monks' quarters, with cultural properties such as a stone pagoda site and a rock-carved Buddha. The main hall (Daeungjeon) enshrines a triad of Buddha statues. The rock-carved Buddha is a standing figure relief carved on a natural rock face about 7 meters high, with the face heavily worn due to cracks in the rock.
