Why travelers stop here
Gyodong Village is a typical rural village harmonizing with beautiful natural landscapes such as the Hantan River and Jijang Mountain. To the east lies the Meonguri Nadeulgil trail where the sun rises, and to the north, the upper reaches of the Hantan River, Auraji, meander. Designated as a pilot village for improving rural residential environments in 1995, the village entrance, carefully cultivated over a long time, gives the impression of entering a beautiful housing complex. The wildflowers and arbors planted in the gardens and fences of each farmhouse look like a painting. The rich fields feature unpolluted natural scenery of paddies and dry fields, and the untouched, pollution-free clean area possesses geographical characteristics ideal for nesting crayfish, salamanders, fireflies, and migratory birds, with abundant natural resources. Regarding the origin of the village name, it is said that a dragon ascended to heaven after training here, or that it was called Doryonggol due to the many salamanders, which gradually changed to Deryonggol and now to Gyodong. Gyoryong refers to a legendary dragon resembling a snake, meaning a dragon that did not achieve its goal.
Gyodong Jangdokdae Village is a farmstay tourism village selected as an Eutteum Village in 2022. Eutteum Village refers to receiving the highest grade in all four categories—experience, education, food, and accommodation—under the system that evaluates rural business sectors. At Jangdokdae Village, various experience programs are offered, including seasonal activities such as making kkakdugi, boiling and eating corn, making potato pancakes, making kimchi pancakes, agricultural food therapy, creative art, and our rice clay, tailored to all ages from kindergarten children to seniors. It is a quiet village where children can broaden their perspectives through rural sentiments and experiences, and adults can feel the warmth of their hometown and nostalgia. It is a clean mountain village with unpolluted mountains and valleys. Additionally, visitors can purchase agricultural products produced in clean environments, harvest them directly, and see, hear, feel, and enjoy the village.
