Established in 1994 to promote the quantitative and qualitative development of cacti in Gyeonggi-do, the Cactus and Succulent Research Institute has been developing new varieties and high-quality production technologies. It strives to enhance the technological competitiveness of cactus farms and to improve production environments through research and development. The institute cultivates and distributes new varieties suited to export and overseas market preferences, while also expanding the domestic market. Gyeonggi-do, which exports cacti to about 20 countries worldwide, is the largest cactus production area in Korea, accounting for 82% of the national cultivation area. In particular, the cultivation area for export cacti reaches 94% of the national total, the highest in Korea, and the region boasts excellent long-standing cultivation know-how and technology.
