Why travelers stop here
Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education Namsan Library is the first public library in Seoul. It opened in 1922 and moved to its current location in 1964 with a new building, and the following year, in 1965, the library's name was changed to Namsan Library as it is now. The reinforced concrete building built in 1964 is the work of architect Lee Hae-seong, and was recognized for its preservation value and registered as a Seoul Future Heritage in 2013. The vast collection of 500,000 volumes held by Namsan Library is divided and arranged by subject into four reading rooms (Humanities and Social Sciences Room, Natural Sciences Room, Literature Room/Korean Literature Archive, and Bibliotherapy/Language Room).
