Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Gaya Garden is a transformed site of approximately 20,000 pyeong of abandoned salt fields that were once overgrown with trash and weeds. The garden keeper, Yoo Byeong-cheon, has been planting flowers and trees with his own funds for about 10 years. It is adjacent to Suncheon Bay, a Ramsar wetland, and is also known as a beach garden. The garden keeper opens this place for free, finding happiness and comfort in seeing visitors enjoy themselves. In early spring, flower hills overlooking the beach and flower lawns along the garden paths bloom, and in May, the rose hedge surrounding Gaya Garden meets the tidal flat landscape, creating a scenery hard to find elsewhere. Especially around the pond with the Love Bridge, when evening primroses bloom, pink waves create a spectacular view. The successive blooms of star grass, red spider lilies, and small chrysanthemums are also not to be missed. Fruits from fruit trees such as quince, plum, and peach can be picked and tasted in small amounts, making it a great nature learning place for children. From the top of the hill behind Gaya Garden, you can enjoy Suncheon Bay and beautiful sunsets. The distance from Waon Beach to Gaya Garden is 1.7 km, about a 5-minute drive, so visiting together is recommended.
