Why travelers stop here
An island located in Sadeung-myeon, Geoje-si, with an area of 5.82㎢ and a coastline length of 19.5km. Barley and sweet potatoes are mainly cultivated, and oyster and mussel farming is active along the coast. The name originates from the characters '加' (to add) and '助' (to help), meaning 'to assist,' and it is the second largest island among the附属 islands of Geoje Island. Records in the Goryeosa (History of Goryeo) indicate that a horse pasture was established here during the reign of King Seongjong. Representative tourist attractions of Gajodo Island include the 'Sunset Hill' where beautiful sunsets can be viewed, Gyedo Fishing Village Experience Village, the pavilion site called Jeongjanaru where it is said a fairy danced in a cloud skirt at the top of Ongnyeobong Peak, the Suhyeon Hyosi Park near the ferry dock, and the suspension bridge connecting Gajodo Island and Hyeongje Island. In July 2000, the Gajo Bridge connecting the southern part of the island to Seongpo-ri on Geoje Island was opened. From Changchon Village, looking west, the sunset falling between the two islands toward Goseong is a spectacular sight.
