제주특별자치도 제주시 구좌읍 평대7길 34

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Located in Jungdong, Pyeongdaeri, Gamsugul Batdam-gil is a pleasant path for a walk while enjoying the old-fashioned scenery of a tranquil village. It starts at the Pyeongdaeri Jungdong Village Community Center and is about 1.5 km long, taking approximately 30 minutes. Batdam refers to stone walls built by piling scattered stones beside fields during land reclamation for farming on Jeju Island, a volcanic island. The stones are loosely stacked with gaps, so they do not collapse even in typhoons, and they were built to protect crops from wind and prevent livestock from entering. Gamsugul Batdam-gil features Gamsugul Well. It is said that the well was named Gamsu because of its excellent water taste. Gamsugul Batdam-gil, along with Nanmi Batdam-gil, Jinbille Batdam-gil, Mulme Batdam-gil, and Eomeongabang Batdam-gil, has been designated as one of Jeju's 8 Great Batdam-gil routes to experience Jeju's stone walls and rural culture and environment, and to promote local awareness.
