Ganggu Market

A five-day market held in Ganggu-myeon, Yeongdeok-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, famous as a hub for snow crabs. The market takes place near the Ganggu Bus Terminal. In the past, snow crabs were the main trading item, but now agricultural products, daily necessities, and seafood are mainly traded, centered around Ganggu Port and the Snow Crab Village in Chuksan-myeon. Market days are the 3rd, 8th, 13th, 18th, 23rd, and 28th of each month, with about 50 stores. Ganggu Market is adjacent to Ganggu Port and Samsa Park, attracting many tourists who visit the park and clean waters. On market days, it is crowded with tourists looking for fresh fish including sliced raw fish. In particular, this is the main production area of Yeongdeok snow crab, which is nationally renowned among seafood caught in the East Sea. Yeongdeok snow crab is called 'daege' because the shape of its leg joints resembles bamboo, and it is a high-grade fish preferred by tourists for its low fat content, light taste, and unique flavor.
