Why travelers stop here

Ojukheon and Gangneung Municipal Museum are divided. Ojukheon is a building from the early Joseon Dynasty, designated as a Treasure for its architectural significance. It was in Mongnyongsil of Ojukheon that Yulgok Yi I was born. The grounds include Ojukheon, Munseongsa (Shrine), Sarangchae, Eojegak (Royal Writings Pavilion), and the Yulgok Memorial Hall, which displays artworks of Saimdang, Yulgok, Maechang, and Oksan. Since 1962, the Daehyeon Yi Yulgok Seonsaeng Jegokje (memorial rite) has been held annually to honor Yulgok. The Municipal Museum was established to collect, preserve, research, and exhibit folk materials and local artifacts of the Yeongdong region, to inherit and develop traditional culture, and to contribute to social education and the emotional cultivation of citizens. The exhibition hall is divided into the Local Folk Hall, displaying tools for livelihood and items related to food, clothing, and shelter used in the Yeongdong region; the History and Culture Hall, exhibiting prehistoric relics, Buddhist artifacts, ceramics, books, and paintings excavated from the Gangneung area; and the Outdoor Exhibition Hall, featuring stone structures and restored tomb systems of the Yeongdong region.
