Why travelers stop here
Poet Yeongrang Kim Yun-sik was born here on January 16, 1903, as the eldest son among two sons and three daughters of Kim Jong-ho. In his childhood, he was called Chae-jun, but later changed his name to Yun-sik; Yeongrang is his pen name, which he mainly used during his literary activities. Until his passing on September 29, 1950, Yeongrang published about 80 exquisite poems, of which over 60 were written during his time living here, refusing to change his name or participate in shrine visits under Japanese colonial rule. The Yeongrang Birthplace was sold several times after Yeongrang moved to Seoul in 1948, but was purchased and managed by Gangjin County in 1985. The main building, partially altered, was restored to its original form in 1992, and the gate building, which had been demolished, was reconstructed in 1993 based on testimonies from Yeongrang's family. The birthplace retains the well, camellia tree, jar terrace, and persimmon tree that inspired his poems, and is planted with many peonies.

Area: Birthplace grounds (5,083㎡)
