Gangcheonseom Island

경기도 여주시 강천면 강천리길 88-60

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Located in the upper reaches of the Namhangang River (Yeogang), Gangcheonseom Island is an ecological island featuring ginkgo trees in autumn, magnolias in spring, and a colony of the endangered wild plant species *Aster altaicus* var. *uchiyamae* (Danyang ssukbujaengi). Originally not an island, it became submerged during the rainy season and turned into an island; after the Four Major Rivers Project, it was completely separated from the mainland and became an island.

Spanning a vast area of 571,000㎡, Gangcheonseom Island is larger than Nami Island, and it takes over an hour on foot to explore the entire island.
