Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Gyeongbaeksa is a shrine built in 1926 through the collaboration of three descendants of Shin Sung-gyeom: Shin Sang, Shin Hang, and Shin Geon. It is a place where ancestral rites are performed for four sages: Jangjeolgong Shin Sung-gyeom, a founding contributor of the Goryeo Dynasty; his descendant Shin Hyeon, a late Goryeo scholar; Mungjeonggong Yi Saek, a Neo-Confucian scholar; and Won Cheon-seok, a scholar who devoted himself to learning without seeking government office. The shrine complex includes buildings such as Gyeongbaekseowon, Iyangjae, Yeongsujeong, Naesammun, and Gyeongbaeksa. Gyeongbaeksa houses a portrait of Shin Sung-gyeom, and ancestral rites are held every March by the Pyeongsan Shin clan and local Confucian scholars.
