Gyeongju Donggungwon

Gyeongju Donggungwon is located at the entrance of the Bomun Tourist Complex. It was originally used for agricultural test plots and flower cultivation, but was developed to transform agriculture into a tourism resource, creating a four-season experiential tourism facility through the development of new tourism content. Based on the historical records from the Samguk Sagi (History of the Three Kingdoms) in the 14th year of King Munmu's reign, which state that our ancestors first raised flowers, rare birds, and exotic animals at Donggung and Wolji (the former Anapji Pond), and the fact that bird names were used for official titles in Silla, various historical contents unique to Gyeongju have been storytelling to modernly recreate Donggung and Wolji, Korea's first botanical and zoological garden, here at Gyeongju Donggungwon.
