Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Designated as Gyeongpo Provincial Park on June 26, 1982 (area 9.471 km², Gangwon-do Notice No. 90), this area was centered around Gyeongpodae, Gyeongpoho Lake, and Gyeongpo Beach, located approximately 6 km north of downtown Gangneung, and contained many cultural properties and monuments. Some areas were later released, and the current area is 6.865 km², including Gyeongpoho Lake (water chestnut habitat), Sunpo Wetland, Gyeonghojeong pine forest, and Sacheon coastal pine forest. In particular, Gyeongpoho Lake is a habitat for natural monuments such as swans and mallards. Gyeongpodae, one of the Eight Scenic Views of Gwandong, is famous as a place for watching the full moon on Daeboreum. In the past, fishing in Gyeongpoho Lake was enough to enhance the leisure of visitors, but now fishing is prohibited as it is a nature protection area.
