Gyeryongsan

Rising prominently in the center of Geoje Island, Gyeryongsan has an elevation of 566m. It borders Jangpyeong-dong to the north, Dongsang-ri to the south, and Oksan-ri to the west. To the north lies Daegeumsan, to the east Oknyeobong (555m), to the south Garasan (585m) and Nojasan (565m), and to the west Sanbangsan (507m). The mountain's summit resembles a rooster's comb, and the mountain is said to have formed the Gucheon Valley by a dragon's twist, hence the name Gyeryongsan (meaning 'Rooster Dragon Mountain'). It consists of three peaks. Below the highest peak are Uisangdae, where the Silla monk Uisang practiced asceticism, as well as Buiimun Rock, Janggun Rock, Geobuk Rock, and Janggi Rock. Midway up the mountain sits Gyeryongsa Temple. In spring, the main ridge from the summit of Gyeryongsan to Seonjasan is covered with royal azaleas, creating a spectacular sight.
