Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Walking along Goboksu-gil, a 150m stretch on Jungang 1-gil and Saejeumeunhaeggeori in Jung-gu, Ulsan, retro-styled old buildings and aged alleyways speak to you. The Goboksu Music Hall, renovated from an old house, operates with the first floor as an exhibition space and the second floor as a multi-cultural space. It is arranged to showcase the life of Ulsan-born Goboksu, famous for 'Tahyang Sal-i' (Living in a Foreign Land), and his wife Hwang Geum-sim, along with their works and representative songs. The hall is decorated with items and interiors such as phonographs and pianos that evoke the atmosphere of the Enlightenment period, making it perfect for retro-style photos. Ulsan holds the annual Goboksu Song Festival to honor the achievements of Goboksu, who left a significant mark on Korean popular music history, and to promote the development of Korean popular music. On the second floor, the cafe Seongnam Salon offers drinks for relaxation.
