Why travelers stop here
The Gochang Green Barley Field Festival is a representative festival of Gochang-gun, centered around the green barley fields, one of the major ecological resources of Gochang-gun, Jeollabuk-do. Since its first holding in 2004, it has been creating a long history as the nation's top scenic agricultural festival, with an average of over 500,000 visitors each year. The most beautiful time during the barley growth period is called the 'green barley' period. During this time when the barley takes on its most fantastic appearance, the 'Gochang Green Barley Field Festival' reveals itself as the main character on approximately 770,000㎡ of land in the Hakwon Farm area of Gongeum-myeon, Gochang-gun, from mid-April to mid-May each year.
The sight of green barley fluttering in the spring breeze evokes the image of musical notes dancing on a staff, so the 21st festival has taken 'Green Barley Field' and 'Music' as its themes. Under the slogan 'Green Wave Music Note', it will welcome visitors with more colorful and exciting features from April 20 to May 12.
Throughout the festival period, you can experience programs that satisfy all five senses. Seeing the vast green barley fields with rapeseed flowers satisfies the sense of sight, listening to various busking music created by professional performance teams and Gochang residents satisfies the sense of hearing, eating food made from local agricultural specialties satisfies the sense of taste, experiencing the barley playground and barley sprout growing activities satisfies the sense of touch, and adding memories with loved ones to the green barley field festival leaves a lasting fragrance, satisfying the sense of smell.
In particular, the 21st Green Barley Field Festival aims to be held with three goals. First, it is a barley field that heals through music. It seeks to create a diverse festival atmosphere with music performances of various genres and to harmonize with visitors. Second, it is to expand the play space for children. Activities exclusively for children have been planned, such as the 'Barley Grain Playground' and 'Barley Powder Writing Experience' inside the multipurpose exhibition hall. This aims to expand the age range that can enjoy the festival compared to before. Lastly, it is to increase the cleanliness of the festival site. Measures such as collecting festival site waste, increasing the number of portable toilets, and improving sewage outlets will be implemented.
