Why travelers stop here
Gwaneumjeongsa, a prayer sanctuary located on the mid-slope of Bulmosan Mountain in Jillye-myeon, Gimhae-si, is situated near Pyeongji Pond and serves as the main headquarters of Korea's Maitreya Buddhism. The temple houses a clay gilded Buddhist statue, a seated bodhisattva sculpture created using the unfired clay technique, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, which is highly rare. The main hall enshrines Maitreya Buddha rather than Sakyamuni Buddha. Another cultural property is the Cheonjimyeongyang Surukjaeui Chanyo, a collection of Buddhist rituals for wandering spirits on water and land, published in 1637. It serves as an important resource for understanding the popular texts of the Joseon Dynasty and comparing various regional editions.
