Goesan Suwoljeong Pavilion

Suwoljeong is located within Sanmak-gil, a 10-ri (approximately 4 km) trekking course that follows the scenic views of Goesan Dam from Sao-ri Village in Oesa-ri, Chilseong-myeon, Goesan-gun to Sanmak-i Village. It is the place where the mid-Joseon civil official No Su-sin lived in exile. No Su-sin passed the civil service examination in the 38th year of King Jungjong (1543) and studied scholarship alongside Yi Hwang. In 1545, due to the Eulsa Incident (Eulsa Sahwa), he was dismissed from office and exiled to Suncheon, Jindo, Goesan, and other places. After King Seonjo ascended the throne, he was reinstated and eventually rose to the position of Yeonguijeong (Chief State Councillor). This building originally stood in Yeonha-dong, Goesan, where No Su-sin lived in exile for two years starting from the 20th year of King Myeongjong (1565). When the Goesan Hydroelectric Power Plant dam was built, the site became submerged, and the building was relocated to its current location in 1957. It is situated in a spot offering a panoramic view of Goesan Lake, and Byeongpungbawi Rock, one of the Nine Scenic Spots of Yeonha (Yeonhagugok), is clearly visible. The building is a single-eaved, hip-and-gable roof structure with three front bays and two side bays. It features a simple layout with a central wooden-floored hall (daecheong) of one bay, an ondol room on each side, and a wooden veranda (toetmaru) at the front. Later, the building was named Suwoljeong, and the name has been passed down to the present day.
