Destination briefing
Why travelers stop here
Gunhang Village is a center of modern history, imbued with the pain of the Japanese colonial period. In 1912, during the Japanese colonial era, Japan built a planned city in Jinhae Jungang-dong, forcibly evicting the residents who lived there, and the city area was entirely taken over by the Japanese. Centered around a 1,200-year-old hackberry tree, Japan created eight radial orthogonal streets. As a remnant of this, modern historical buildings can be seen in Gunhang Village. On the Gunhang Village History Trail, there are the Suyang Hall, which was used as a Japanese military guard post, the Jinhae Post Office, a maple wooden building, and the residence of the commander of the Naval Base Hospital.
