Geumpyeong Reservoir

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Geumpyeong Reservoir is an agricultural irrigation reservoir located in Geumsan-ri, Geumsan-myeon, and is known as a reservoir that never dries up due to the water volume flowing down from Moaksan Mountain. It is situated on the road from the Geumsan-myeon town center toward Geumsansa Temple. The area around Geumpyeong Reservoir, called Ori-alteo, features a well-developed wildflower garden and walking course. The name Ori-alteo originates from a prophecy by Doseon, a geomancer from the late Silla period, who predicted that ducks would lay eggs there.

As part of the Moaksan Mountain development project, Geumpyeong Reservoir has gained attention as a scenic and resting spot with the creation of the Geumpyeong-gyeotgil Trail. The total 3.5km Geumpyeong-gyeotgil Trail consists of three sections (Section 1, Section 2, Section 3) and a embankment path, with a total exploration time of about 1 hour. Section 1 is a 1km waterside deck road and waterside ecological forest, Section 2 is a 0.8km waterside deck road, and Section 3 is a 1.2km waterside deck road and natural forest path. The embankment path is a 0.5km concrete road. A pavilion is also built by the waterside, where visitors can take a break and cool off while walking along the trail under the dense shade of trees.
