Destination briefing
Why travelers stop here
Located about halfway along the 49th course of Haeparang Trail, a pleasant walking route, this is the eastern peak of Hwajinpo, where traces of its past use as a villa for famous figures remain as modern cultural heritage. Since ancient times, the high mountain east of Hwajinpo Lake has been called Eungbong, using the character 'eung' (鷹) meaning 'hawk', because its shape resembles a hawk perched. The peak is 286 meters high. From here, visitors can enjoy beautiful panoramic views of the northern and southern lakes of Hwajinpo and Hwajinpo Beach. Nearby attractions worth visiting together include Hwajinpo Lake, the beach, Kim Il-sung's Villa, Syngman Rhee's Villa, and Geumgangsamsa Temple.
