Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Nojeokbong is a large stone peak on Yudalsan Mountain in Mokpo-si. This peak is famous for being used by Admiral Yi Sun-sin during the Imjin War to defeat the enemy, and it is a place where Admiral Yi Sun-sin's high-level psychological warfare using the terrain stands out. During the Imjin War, in order to overcome the military disadvantage, they wove straw mats to cover the rocks, making them look like piles of military provisions (rice stacks), giving the appearance that a large amount of provisions was stored. In addition, they dressed residents in military uniforms and had them continuously walk around Nojeokbong to disguise it as if there was a large army, and they sprinkled white clay powder into the Yeongsan River to make the water flowing into the sea look like rice-washing water, thereby disguising our forces' strength to the Japanese enemies, causing the Japanese commander to turn his troops and retreat. There is a legend that the tactic of circling Nojeokbong at that time was later sublimated into culture and arts, developing into Ganggangsullae. When viewed from a different direction, Nojeokbong looks like a human face. Also, it is said that receiving the energy of Nojeokbong is good for health, so it is popular among those who visit to make wishes together, and it is emerging as a new tourist attraction.
