Why travelers stop here
In 2025, marking the 579th anniversary of the promulgation of Hunminjeongeum and the 80th anniversary of Korea's liberation, the 14th Dobong Hangeul Festival "Our Language, Writing Hangeul" will be held. Dobong-gu, Seoul, is where historical figures who created, preserved, and enjoyed Hangeul rest. From Princess Jeongui, the daughter of King Sejong the Great, to Gansong Jeon Hyeong-pil and Widang Jeong In-bo, who strove to protect Hangeul during the Japanese colonial period, and poet Kim Su-yeong, who sang of freedom in Hangeul. The 'Dobong Hangeul Festival,' held annually on Hangeul Day at Wondangsam Park in Banghak-dong, is a representative local cultural festival of Dobong-gu. The 14th Dobong Hangeul Festival in 2025, in celebration of the 80th anniversary of liberation, aims to create a venue for local cultural festivals that share the stories of our Hangeul culture, which collapsed during the Japanese colonial period, and the people who worked to rebuild it, along with the history of our language and Hangeul, and the figures of Dobong who created, preserved, and enjoyed Hangeul.
