Why travelers stop here
Soisan is a small mountain rising 352.3 meters above sea level in the middle of the Cheorwon Plain. After the Korean War, it was a U.S. military base and civilian access control line, prohibiting general public entry. However, as the Army's 6th Division agreed to open Soisan, the civilian, government, and military sectors participated together, starting construction in June 2011 and completing it in December, finally opening the trail in 2012 under the name 'Soisan Ecological Forest Green Trail.' Except for the walking path, the area is still a minefield, and the trail runs alongside barbed wire fences. This site housed the 1st Beacon Fire Station, which signaled the appearance of foreign invaders since the Goryeo Dynasty, and is the center of Cheorwon's history, remembering the splendor of old Cheorwon before the Korean War. From the summit of Soisan, one can overlook Baengma Hill, Kim Il-sung Hill, Cheorwon Station, the 2nd Infiltration Tunnel, the Labor Party Headquarters, as well as the largest migratory bird habitat and the Cheorwon Plain at a glance.
