Naeri Valley

Yeongwol Naeri Valley is a beautiful valley located in Kimsatgat-myeon, Yeongwol-gun. It is about 30 km from Yeongwol-eup, past Gosi Cave toward Sangdong. Only about 3 km from the valley entrance is accessible to visitors; the rest is surrounded by primeval forest, creating a hidden scenic wonder. It is a representative valley tourist destination in Yeongwol, formed by the confluence of water flowing from Guryongsan Mountain in Gyeongsangbuk-do and water rising from the fir forest of Seondalsan Mountain in Gangwon-do. Surrounded by mountains, the valley has clear, clean water and is home to fish such as the kkalttak catfish and various aquatic animals. As a valley with good mountain scenery and clear water, many vacationers visit in summer to enjoy family water play and fishing with their children. Chilnyong Falls is nearby, and the rocky cliffs harmonized with the forest create a spectacular view. Especially in spring, the red azaleas blooming among the rocks around the valley are a magnificent sight. Nearby tourist attractions include Cheongnyeongpo, a historic walking trail, the Korean Peninsula-shaped terrain of Seonam Village, and Bara Maro Observatory. Cheongnyeongpo, located 5 km from Yeongwol-eup, is where the poet Kim Yu-jeong lived; it has his birthplace, a literature museum, and stone tablets inscribed with his poems. The Korean Peninsula-shaped terrain of Seonam Village is a 1:1000 scale reproduction of the Korean Peninsula, well depicting its major mountains, rivers, and islands. Bara Maro Observatory is an observatory on the summit of Bongraesan Mountain, equipped with a main telescope with a diameter of 80 cm, allowing visitors to enjoy beautiful stars and the night view of Yeongwol on clear days.
