Doseongam Three-Story Stone Pagoda

대구광역시 달성군 유가읍 도성길 180

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

This stone pagoda is located in the front yard of Daeungbojeon Hall of Doseongam, a subsidiary hermitage of Yugasa Temple on Biseulsan Mountain. It is the most representative relic of Doseongam, founded by Doseongdaesa. The lower base stone and middle stone are a single stone, with one support stone, two lower capstones, two moldings, four upper middle stones, and support pillars. There is a capstone with a lotus design, and the third story and above lack the body stone, roof stone, and finial. The water-drip surface is relatively gentle, and the eaves ends are lightly turned up. At the top wheel part, there is a structure made of a single stone believed to be natural, but it is heavily worn and difficult to assess. Considering the diminishing ratio of the existing roof stones, it is presumed to have been a three-story stone pagoda. Currently, the third-story body and top wheel parts have been replaced with new components. Overall, it appears relatively well-aligned and proportioned. This stone pagoda can be seen as a typical example of Silla stone pagodas, which were popular mainly in the Gyeongju region, the capital of Silla.
