Seosang-ri Three-story Stone Pagoda

Seosang-ri Three-story Stone Pagoda is a three-story stone pagoda from the late Unified Silla period located in Chuncheon-si, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province. It was designated as a Tangible Cultural Property of Gangwon-do on December 16, 1971. Made of granite, it stands in a field that is said to be the former site of Yanghwasa Temple, built during the Silla period. The base platform is unclear whether it was originally a single-layer platform or if parts have been lost, with a high two-panel stone forming the foundation stone and the base middle stone placed behind it. The top part retains the square roof-shaped decoration (noban) and the bowl-shaped decoration (bokbal) placed upside down. Except for the lower base, the preservation is good, and in 1980, the pagoda was dismantled and restored due to tilting. Many roof tile fragments are found around the pagoda. Although the body parts above the second floor decrease too rapidly, giving a somewhat unbalanced appearance, the simple composition of each part conveys an elegant beauty, characteristic of late Unified Silla stone pagodas.
