Dongshin University Daejeong Culture Museum

It is Korea's first camera museum, exhibited on the 5th floor of the Dongshin University Central Library [Lee Gyeong-mo Camera Museum]. It opened on November 11, 1996, after veteran photographer Lee Gyeong-mo donated about 1,500 cameras from around the world that he had collected throughout his life. Lee Gyeong-mo served as the photo department head of Honam Newspaper, the predecessor of Gwangju Ilbo, and as a civil official in the Ministry of National Defense's Public Information Bureau, documenting scenes of modern Korean history such as the Yeosu-Suncheon Incident and the Korean War. He is an artist who captured the difficult lives of ordinary citizens with a warm perspective. The museum displays about 340 cameras from the 1890s, when photography began to popularize, to the 1990s, when the transition from analog to digital cameras began. Cameras from various countries around the world, including Germany's Leica and Contax, as well as Japan, the United States, European countries, the former Soviet Union, China, North Korea, and South Korea, are exhibited for comparison.
