Coastal Wildflower Park

Yanggu, Gangwon-do, where the park is located, is adjacent to the DMZ. The area is also called Punch Bowl, and the name originated from a war correspondent who participated in the Korean War, as the topography resembles a punch bowl. The northern part, near the DMZ border and the Baekdudaegan mountain range, consists of high mountains, but Haean-myeon is shaped like a bowl placed among rugged mountains, forming a gentle basin. This allows for a wide distribution of sunlight and, due to long-term preservation as a civilian control zone, one can observe pristine forest paths and various rare flora and fauna habitats in their natural state. In particular, Haean-myeon holds significant academic value as it can prove a part of the formation process of the Korean Peninsula, which was formed during the Precambrian era about 540 million years ago, drawing great interest from many experts. Within this naturally gifted environment, the Wildflower Park is a place where various wildflowers and trees grow naturally on approximately 80,000 pyeong of land. It is home to 31,174 trees of 38 species, including the evergreen spindle tree, and 1,574,000 herbaceous plants of 82 species, including goat's beard, allowing visitors to walk through wildflower fields and enjoy various wildflowers blooming by season. Additionally, this place is also a farm that produces raw materials for cosmetics and products used in our daily lives. There is a research institute that develops and studies the use of wildflower raw materials, as well as facilities where visitors can experience DIY daily goods such as cosmetics made from wildflower ingredients, so it is recommended to tour the wildflower complex and then visit these facilities.
