Destination briefing
Why travelers stop here
Located at the foot of Chiaksan Mountain and Maehwasan Mountain, the village is home to the Hasu Namcheon Stream and Hakgok Reservoir, where various fish and migratory birds naturally coexist. The name 'Hakgok' means 'valley where many cranes visit.' This village is also home to Suneoneomeojae Pass, which is said to be the pass that King Taejong (Yi Bang-won) crossed by carriage to visit his teacher Won Cheon-seok, who refused the king's repeated offers of government posts and continued his life in seclusion, and whom the king missed dearly.
