Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Mani Mountain is 609 meters above sea level, located on the border between Hwasun-eup and Dong-gu, Gwangju, and is connected to Mudeung Mountain, a famous mountain in Gwangju. The main ridge of Mudeung Mountain stretches southwest, with one branch descending to Anyang Mountain and continuing to the Honam Jeongmaek, while another branch extends further southwest, slightly veering southeast to form the peak of Mani Mountain. Mani Mountain is also known by the alias Nahan Mountain. In old texts such as Yeojidoseo and Haedongjido, it is recorded as Nahan Mountain. Today, it is called Mani Mountain rather than Nahan Mountain, which seems to originate from the Mani Temple located at the foot of the mountain. The northern ridge of the mountain connects to Mudeung Mountain, and hiking trails have been developed. The Mani Mountain Five Senses Connection Trail, known as a natural healing forest, has been developed, and it is said that this trail was walked by Dasan Jeong Yak-yong while reading. Nearby, there are attractions such as Mani Waterfall, Mani Mountain Healing Forest, and recreational forests, making it a popular destination for hikers and summer vacationers.
