Tomb of Kim U-myeong, Prince Consort Cheongpung

This is the tomb of Chungikgong Kim U-myeong, the son of Yeonguijeong Kim Yuk, the father-in-law of King Hyeonjong (the 18th ruler of Joseon), and the father of Queen Myeongseong, Hyeonjong's wife. Chungikgong Kim U-myeong passed the jinsa examination in the 20th year of King Injo (1642) and served as Gangneung Chambong, Sema, Yeongdonnyeongbusa, and Owi Dochonggwan.

According to legend, when Kim U-myeong died, the court granted him a tomb in Jeung-ri, Sindong-myeon, Chunseong-gun, Gangwon-do, as a courtesy to a prince consort. As the body was being transported upstream on the Hangang River, the boat stopped near the current tomb site and a gust of wind blew the myeongjeong (a flag recording the deceased's rank, official posts, and surname in white letters on a red background) onto a mountain. When they went to retrieve it, they found the site to be a propitious location, so they canceled the granted land and buried him here.
