DMZ Crane Peace Town (formerly Migratory Bird Village)

DMZ Crane Peace Town was opened in November 2016 after renovating Yangji Elementary School. The town is operated to conserve and promote the wise use of the Cheorwon crane habitat. A consultative body composed of local residents and organizations, relevant institutions, and experts was formed to facilitate research and pilot projects concerning the Cheorwon crane habitat. The goal is to promote the coexistence of our lives and a peaceful ecosystem by enabling everyone to enjoy diverse information about cranes, birds, and wildlife at any time—not only during specific periods—and by providing hands-on crane ecology learning experiences. Crane Peace Town features a library and an ecology education room for learning about the natural ecology of cranes and wildlife, as well as a café serving as a comfortable resting place while providing a variety of information. Programs and facilities for tours and lodging are also available.
