Miryang Yeongnamru Pavilion

Yeongnamru Pavilion (National Treasure), located on A-dong Mountain next to Miryang Namcheon Stream, is considered one of Korea's three great pavilions along with Jinju's Chokseokru and Pyongyang's Bubyeokru. This massive two-story pavilion, with five bays from east to west and four bays from north to south, a hipped-and-gabled roof, and two attached pavilions on the left and right, was originally a small pavilion attached to Yeongnam Temple, one of the five great temples of the Silla Dynasty. After Yeongnam Temple was abandoned, records indicate that during the reign of King Gongmin of the Goryeo Dynasty, the existing pavilion was demolished and rebuilt on a larger scale. The current structure was rebuilt in 1884 by Miryang Magistrate Lee In-jae.

The Yeongnamru pavilion houses a collection of calligraphic works by famous masters of the era, displayed as plaques that illuminate the flow of history, while the stone flowers in the courtyard also capture visitors' attention. The crescent moon-shaped stepped passage connecting Chimnyugak and the main pavilion enhances the distinctive layout and composition of the buildings, showcasing the essence of dignified yet picturesque beauty through its majestic style. Additionally, located on a cliff overlooking the Miryang River, it casts a grand shadow and offers a splendid landscape. In 1931, when the Japanese Government-General of Korea selected the 16 scenic views of Joseon, Yeongnamru was chosen as one of them.
