Bomunsan

Bomunsan is a mountain with an elevation of 457.6m rising in the southern part of Daejeon, and it is a representative urban park of Daejeon, considered one of the Eight Scenic Views of Daejeon. There are about 20 mineral water springs in each valley, and below Sirubong Peak, at Gocheoksa Temple, there is a natural rock resembling a Maitreya statue. Bomunsan is still a popular mountain among citizens today, but in the past, it was also considered important by ancestors. During the Three Kingdoms period, it served as the border between Baekje and Silla, and the Bomunsanseong Fortress, which played the role of Baekje's front line, remains, along with cultural properties and monuments such as the Rock-carved Seated Buddha and the Stone Statue at Bomsunsa Temple Site. There are about 10 hiking courses on Bomunsan, including Sirubong-gil, Munpilbong-gil, and Sanseong-gil. Among them, a representative 4.8km course starts from the old Bomunsan Cable Car Plaza, passes through the observatory Bowundae and Bomunsanseong Fortress, heads toward Sirubong Peak, descends into a valley, passes the Outdoor Music Hall and Songhaksa Temple, and returns to the old Cable Car Plaza. Another 4.3km course starts from the Sajeong Park parking lot, climbs the steep slope behind Gocheoksa Temple to Sirubong Peak, descends along the western ridge, and then follows the northern ridge from the fork to Bomsunsa Temple Site. Besides hiking courses, there are also Sajeong Park leisure facilities, an Outdoor Music Hall, a Youth Plaza, and an observatory.
