Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Festival

A local festival held every January in Hwacheon-gun, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, Korea. Hosted and managed by Nara Foundation. It is one of the 7 Wonders of Winter in the World selected by CNN, one of the world's top 4 winter festivals, and is Korea's representative cultural and tourism festival selected by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Along with the Hampyeong Butterfly Festival, it is a representative region that is consistently mentioned as a success story of local festivals and local autonomy in Korea. It's a festival. Since the first festival was held in 2003, 1 million, or as many as 1.5 million, people have visited during the festival period. Tourists from foreign countries visit and have fun, and military units even send soldiers there for a day.
