Daewongun's Villa (Seokpajeong)

서울특별시 종로구 창의문로11길 4-1 (부암동)

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Built in the late Joseon Dynasty as a detached villa of Heungseon Daewongun, it is designated as a tangible cultural heritage of Seoul. Surrounded by the rocky slopes of Inwangsan Mountain, Heungseon Daewongun named it 'Seokpajeong,' and it is also called Samgyedong Pavilion. The villa originally consisted of various buildings including the main house with seven living quarters, a hexagonal pavilion, and Yususeongjunggwanpungnu, but today only four buildings remain: the inner house, the sarangchae (guest quarters), a detached building, and a pavilion. It boasts beautiful scenery and exquisite architecture, allowing visitors to feel the elegance and artistic sentiment of ancestors. Currently operated by the Seoul Museum of Art, it offers various modern and contemporary art exhibitions, and with an admission ticket to the museum, visitors can also tour the outdoor garden of Seokpajeong. Address: 4-1, Changuimun-ro 11-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul (Buam-dong)
