Hoamsanseong Fortress

Located in Gwanaksan Mountain, this is a fortress from the Three Kingdoms period (Silla era). It can be toured in conjunction with the traditional temple Hoapsa, which is part of the Gwanaksan Dulle-gil trail, and cultural assets such as Hanumul (One Well) and a stone dog statue. Hoamsanseong Fortress is a t'emoe-style mountain fortress from the Unified Silla period, built encircling the ridge, with a perimeter of 1,250m, of which traces of the wall remain in a section of about 300m. Hanumul is a pond at the summit of Hoamsan, measuring 22m in length and 12m in width, surrounded by granite, and also known by the alias Yongbo (Dragon Reservoir). During droughts, rain rituals were held, and in times of war, it was used for military purposes. The exact time when this pond-shaped well was created is unknown, but excavations for repairs revealed that a pond from the Three Kingdoms period was buried beneath the current pond, and a pond with misaligned stonework was built on top of it during the early Joseon period. The Joseon-era stonework of Hanumul measures 22m east-west, 12m north-south, and 1.2m in depth, and the Unified Silla stonework below it was also confirmed. In another well site, a bronze spoon inscribed with the characters '잉벌내력지내미' (Ingbeolnaeryeokjinaemi) was discovered. Near the well, an animal statue in the shape of a dog (stone statue, length 1.7m, width 0.9m, height 1.0m) was found, which appears to be related to a legend that it was erected to prevent fires in Seoul during the Joseon period. A stone inscribed with 'Seokguji' (Stone Constraint Pond) was found near Hanumul, suggesting that this pond was called Seokguji in connection with the stone statue.
