Gongneung-dong Dokkaebi Market

서울특별시 노원구 동일로180길 53 (공릉동)

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Originating from street vendors who gathered near Hwarangdae Station after the opening of the Gyeongchun Railway on July 25, 1939, Gongneung-dong Dokkaebi Market began as a traditional 'dokkaebi' (goblin) market where vendors would vanish like goblins when crackdowns occurred and reappear along the railroad tracks to set up stalls once the crackdowns ended. Known for offering high-quality goods at low prices and having everything one might need, as if conjured by a magic goblin club, it has operated as a representative neighborhood market in Nowon-gu. With the creation of the Gyeongchun Line Forest Park in 2019, it has grown into a cultural tourism market and a landmark in the eastern district. At the market entrance, a mural featuring a goblin welcomes visitors. The market is equipped with an arcade ceiling to allow shopping even in rain or snow, making it convenient to use, and shops are well arranged on both sides of the uphill and downhill paths. Address: 53, Dongil-ro 180-gil, Nowon-gu, Seoul (Gongneung-dong)
