Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Designated as a Seoul Metropolitan Folk Cultural Heritage, the house of Sangheo Yi Tae-jun is where the writer Yi Tae-jun lived and wrote many literary works. He named this house 'Suyeonsanbang' and devoted himself to writing. Currently, his granddaughter runs a traditional tea house here under the name 'Suyeonsanbang'.

Suyeonsanbang is a space where you can escape the flow of time and fully rest. Due to the small size of the house, it cannot accommodate many guests; the main building has about six tea tables spread across the sarangbang (men's quarters), anbang (main room), and wooden floor. Tables are also set up in the yard, with a round bench and table under the lilac tree. The most popular spot is the outer seat of the sarangbang. It is raised about one step higher than the original floor height, and the door has glass instead of traditional paper to allow a clear view outside. Sitting here, you can see the ridge of Bukaksan Mountain beyond the wall. You can enjoy a quiet rest while recalling the ambiance of the ancients with traditional tea. Additionally, this place uses the finest domestic ingredients and has been featured on Japan's NHK, the UK's BBC, French TV, and many Japanese magazines; it is a renowned Korean tea house that often invites foreign guests to visit.
