Seongbuk-dong Catholic Church

Seongbuk-dong Catholic Church was established in 1975 as a separate parish from Hyehwa-dong. The statue of the Virgin Mary standing in the middle of the yard holds a Bible instead of the baby Jesus, unlike typical statues, and her hair parted in the middle and tied in a bun is also impressive. It is located in a place visible to anyone visiting Seongbuk-dong, and it is a beloved spot where many people take photos with the beautiful architecture as a backdrop. The stained glass windows of the main church feature eight windows depicting sacred images and their stories, including the baby Jesus lying in a manger, the Virgin Mary and Joseph in meditation, and the Magi coming with gifts to pay homage. Below the church is a Franciscan monastery, and above it is Gilsangsa Temple nearby, with many historical sites such as embassies, museums, and art galleries from various countries.
