Korea University Central Library, Seoul

This building is the central library built by Boseong Professional School, the predecessor of Korea University, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of its founding. Like the main building, it was designed by Korean architect Park Dong-jin (1899–1982), and the architectural style and structure are said to have been inspired by the library of Duke University in the United States, the alma mater of Oh Cheon-seok, who was a professor at the time. When the central library was completed, it received much attention and support both domestically and internationally, and the construction cost of 220,000 won at the time was completed without any issues. Construction began in June 1935, the year after the main building was built, and was completed in September 1937 as a five-story Gothic-style building made of granite on the left hill of the main building. The floor plan is L-shaped, with the main building on both sides centered around the central tower at the corner. One part faces south alongside the tower, while the other bends north from the tower and faces east. The main building is three stories high, and the tower at the southwest corner is a Gothic-style five-story tower made of reinforced concrete with stone cladding. At the time of the library's completion, the first floor housed 32 faculty research rooms, the second floor had a large reading room with 250 seats, and each desk was equipped with a lamp and leather chair. The third floor stored 200,000 volumes of books, and the floors above the third floor were arranged to display folk materials and artworks. It is located 300 meters from Exit 1 of Korea University Station on Seoul Subway Line 6.
