Inwangsan The Forest Guard Post Bookstore

서울특별시 종로구 인왕산로 172 (옥인동)

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Located halfway up Inwangsan Mountain, The Forest Guard Post Bookstore is a remodeled building originally constructed for the protection of the Blue House and used as a police guard post for over 50 years. The guard post was built after the 1968 Kim Shin-jo incident, and it is no exaggeration to say it symbolizes the pain of division and confrontation. For this reason, during the remodeling process, part of the brick exterior wall and the steel entrance door were left intact. The guard post bookstore is surrounded by glass walls, making the interior clearly visible from the outside. Thanks to this, it feels more like a part of nature than an artificial structure. Inside the bookstore, you can enjoy an excellent view of Namsan Tower through the floor-to-ceiling windows. In one corner of the bookstore, books dealing with environmental issues are separately displayed, and the café also uses eco-friendly biodegradable straws made from sugarcane, drawing attention.
