Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Located in Gwandong, Incheon, the main building of Incheon Jung-gu Office has been used as a major administrative office building in Incheon. The current main building of Jung-gu Office was built in 1933 as the Incheon City Hall on the site where the Japanese consulate was located after the port opening. It was used as the Incheon City Hall, then as the Gyeonggi-do Incheon City Hall after liberation, and as the Incheon Directly Governed City Hall from 1981. Since the city hall moved to Guwol-dong in 1985, it has been used as the Jung-gu Office to this day. Since its construction, it has served as a representative administrative center of Incheon. Originally two stories, it was expanded to three stories in 1964. Overall, it well showcases the characteristics of 1930s modernist architectural style. At the time, it attracted significant attention for being equipped with modern facilities such as steam heating and flush toilets. The scratch tiles that make up the exterior are now rare to find, and they are valuable materials that characterize the architecture of the time, holding historical and architectural value.
