Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

The Hamyang Yeo Clan Cemetery is the family burial ground of the Hamyang Yeo clan, located in Gocheok 2-dong, Guro-gu, Seoul. The progenitor of the Hamyang Yeo clan is Yeo Eomae, who served as a Hanlin Academy scholar in the Tang Dynasty and defected to Silla in 877 to escape the Huang Chao Rebellion. The cemetery contains the tombs of Sunguiranggong, who served as Hojojwarang and Hojochampan during the early Joseon Dynasty under King Taejong, and his wife, Cheongsong Shim Clan, arranged in an upper and lower layout. The tomb was built in the 10th year of King Sejong's reign (1428), and the wife was the granddaughter of Prime Minister Shim Baek-deok and the daughter of Judge Sim Ui-gu. The cemetery covers a total area of 1,025㎡ and includes 2 burial mounds, 1 tombstone, 2 stone tables, and 2 pairs of civil and military stone figures. It holds high historical value for the study of early Joseon Dynasty tomb styles and stone artifacts.
