Doansa Temple

Doansa Temple on Suraksan Mountain, a fundamental sanctuary of the 108 Peace Bogung of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, is a temple that practices the true Dharma of the Buddha, inheriting and developing the traditions and thoughts of Korean Buddhism, and holds the deep meaning of 'a refuge seeking the Dharma.' Believed to have been founded in the mid-Joseon period, Doansa Temple saw the construction of Daeungjeon, Mitajeon, Cheonbuljeon, Sansingak, and Beomjonggak starting in 1976 by Seonmyeok Hyeja Sunim, the leader of the 108 Mountain Temple Pilgrimage Prayer Group, and within the grounds is the 108 Peace Bogung, created as a merit from a 10-year pilgrimage to 108 mountain temples. Mitajeon houses Eonseonmyo Amitabha Triad Painting, Seoul Tangible Cultural Heritage No. 383, and the grounds contain a pair of haetae statues created in the late 19th to early 20th centuries. Beautiful sunrises and moonrises can be seen year-round within the temple grounds, and in summer, the blue bird (Gwaneum bird), an auspicious bird of peace and good fortune, nests here, making it widely known as a pure prayer sanctuary for seeking blessings.
