Cheongnyongsa Temple (Seoul)

Cheongnyongsa Temple (靑龍寺) is a branch temple of Jogyesa, the direct diocese temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, located in Sungin-dong, Jongno-gu. It was founded in 922 by the royal order of King Taejo Wang Geon following the will of National Preceptor Doseon. The temple was named Cheongnyongsa because it was built on a mountain ridge corresponding to the outer Blue Dragon (外靑龍) of Hanyang in terms of feng shui geography. In 1036, the nun Manseon rebuilt the dilapidated temple for the first time since its founding, and it underwent several subsequent reconstructions, totaling 10 renovations. In 1923, it was again called by its old name, Cheongnyongsa. A major reconstruction took place in the 1950s, and another reconstruction in 1973, leading to its present state.
